Who inspired me?
In my senior year of high school, I took a graphics art class and our final project was for the entire fourth quarter. I chose to design a house from the options we had, complete with floor plans, furniture and a scaled model. My teacher gave me an A+ and told me that through all the years she had students turn in their projects, my house project was the only she had ever seen that actually could have been built.
She told me I had found my profession and that I should be – and could be – a successful interior designer. That’s all I needed to hear and I have never looked back.

Why am I involved with the HYF of Northern Virginia?
My father, Leveo V. Sanchez, was one of the founders of HYF and the Hispanic Teacher of the Year Award is named in honor of my grandmother, Victoria D. de Sanchez. When my father retired and moved out of the Washington D.C. area, I joined the board.
